blogs within the blog profiles

There are so many things that tickle my fancy, or have tickled it, and I like to keep records to be able to refer to those fancies again later. Since I started blogging in 2006 I've had over a dozen blogs, gradually interest in each blog waned and I added the posts to this online "file box" of mine. Finally it occurred to me to just keep everything on this blog and through the use of labels file the posts into individual blogs. Here then is a brief profile about the sorts of things you'll find in each "blog."

A Year of Wisdom - The driving force behind this blog begun on April Fools Day 2009 is a desire to "incorporate into my daily walk the various bobs and bits of wisdom" accumulated over my lifetime thus far. Posts are short 100 - 300 words on a particular bit or bob of wisdom, and a series of (sporadic) weekly progress reports are labeled under accountings. Various articles, books, plays, poems, and scriptures referenced in A Year of Wisdom postings can be found in the lower portion of the sidebar.

Anthropologie Love - In 2004 I first explored an Anthropologie store. Now I own napkins, skirts, blouses, short pants, candles, vases, sweaters, and books from there. Like many "Anthro" fans I definitely want to live there. I keep the catalogs for inspiration and wander the store as a pick-me-up.  The "flagship of the Bobos" (bohemian bourgeouis) Anthropologie celebrates the meeting of opposites: old and new, crumbling and sleek, cluttered and spartan, peasant and king. When this blog wasn't part of the file box it was titled Juxtaposition because in addition to posts on what I'm loving "right now" I also explore this "juxtaposed lifestyle" that is the selling point of the store.

Gratitude Journal - My very first gratitude journal was begun as a Junior in High School. I was reading Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach [coincidentally also mentioned in Bobos in Paradise], Breathnach counseled that you couldn't possibly continue on the path of Simple Abundance without bringing gratitude into your everyday life. Since then I have sporadically had gratitude journals, including a blog dedicated to the task. One of the blogs I regularly read adds "Gratitudes" to the bottom of posts. As I thought it would be a good way for me to be more consistent in my "gratitude journal" in December of 2008 I decided to add "Gratitudes" to the bottom of the posts on The Fascinating Woman [see below]. In September of 2009 I began tacking "Gratitudes" to the end of posts on this blog. Gratitude Journal is therefore, more or less, obsolete.

Miss Liss Reads - Indeed I do read. A lot. Most of the books I read don't end up with formal reviews, but I did start a blog toward that end as well. A few books are reviewed and there are a very few other book-related editorials in there as well.

My Own Personal Me - The five "Gratitudes" at the end of posts proffer more about the goings-on of my everyday life than anything else on the web. However, every once in a while I also put out something else personal, a photo, an essay, one of those lists of quirky things, or a personal anecdote and these you'll discover in My Own Personal Me.

Pretties for the Body - Clothing, make-up, jewelry, bathtime indulgences - you know Pretties for the Body. Most of the posts in this "file box" are also under Anthropologie Love but not all - and not all that is Anthropologie love is for the body.

Pretties for the Home - Artwork, furniture, vingettes, wall treatments - you know Pretties for the Home. Again there is some crossover to Anthropologie Love, but again, not all. For quite a while this has been the bulk of the file box, less when I was recieving Domino magazine.

Secret Garden - I love my apartment, but I also love plants, and I periodically go through the planning of an imaginary and vast garden. Mostly images, My Secret Garden once had it's own blog, now it has it's own file box.

Quotable Quotes - A bunch of quotes are at the end of Gratitude Journal posts, but most stand on their own. I have been collecting quotes since - well, at least since Elementary School. In Junior High I started adding "Deep Insights for the Day" to the inside flaps of cards or as the postscripts on letters. Out of cheekiness these insights were often anything but deep. The power of "The Word" made the world - its power continues to delight, amuse, soothe and inspire me. That is why I record them.

Yuletide Cheer - I love Christmas. Love, love, love-love-love! I haven't met the sourpuss yet who could resist my good cheer, as they say, "enthusiasm is catching". Every year about October excitement begins to mount and it lasts all through to Twelfth Night, January 6th. And so each year about that time I give over my blogging time to reveling in my favorite time of year. There are handmade gift suggestions, or last-minute gift suggestions, Anthropologie decorations, old-timey traditions, movie reviews and sweet holiday treat recipes. It's a most magical time of year.

Outside the file box there is another public blog that is more focused. A marriage blog entitled The Fascinating Woman. There you'll find posts based on, and about, the characteristics an adored feminine woman will have. Part women's forum, part relationship counselor, the blog is based on the book Fascinating Womanhood by Helen Andelin

Lastly, self-sylized as "moxie molly" I am a contributor to the blog Modern Molly Mormon. This blog geared towards members (mostly female) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka "Mormons") covers a wide range of topics from doctrine to recipes to organization to taking quality pictures. Check out my quotable quotes series when you need an inspirational or humorous pick-me-up (yup some of them are posted in the Quotable Quotes blog.)
